Travel without a tight wallet
Monday, April 30, 200711:06:00 PM
Tis' the season to pack your bags, grab your passport and head to your dream destination. Of course you know that you'll have a blast but how much are you gonna have in your wallet? I am the kind of traveller who'll will not waste money on flight, accomodation etc but use them for awesome activities like snorkelling, island hopping, dining and of course, shopping. Travelling in Asia isn't so bad on the pocket but what if one day I would like to venture further into the west? It'll cost me a bomb but I found a website that'll minimise the preparation cost to ensure I won't be broke by the time I'm set to go. Hotels: I've always wanted to go to New York and I heard the hotel rates can make you cry like a baby. With the search engine, I manage to find some good ones below US$120! Not only do they tell you the best rate for your preferred travel dates but they also give you a rough idea on the location, nearby places of interest and offer help on how to get around. My favourite part about browsing for accomodation is to look at the pictures of course! Flights: If I am in US, I would not want to stay put in one city. I would venture to other parts of the country as well. With a click of a 'search' button I got me a one way ticket to Miami for less than US$90! I'm pretty sure it beats a bus ride there where the ticket will cost about that much or even more expensive than that! Vacation Rentals: Did you know that this website also offer good rates for vacation rentals all over the world? I beamed when I saw Koh Samui on their location map! Less than US$70 a night is a bargain! But since right now I've virtually flew to Miami, I searched for one there, again, I found a good spot for less than US$90 a night where your room will overlook the beach! Ok let me calculate my total expenditure so far... New York $360, flight $90, Miami accomodation $270... thats a mere US$720 for a good 7 days trip! If you're travelling with a partner, it'll only set you back US$360. So, who wants to travel with me? One with driving license preferred so that we'll be able to explore the city in a car. God help me save money! Labels: travel |

Did you see that?
Sunday, April 29, 200710:06:00 AM
I left my house at 11am in hope to get a taste of the goodies from Donut Factory. Shops are usually open around 11am and by the time I reach there I was so damn sure there will be no queue.
None of my friends had ever gotten the chance to try the donut due to the large crowd awaiting outside the store but they highly recommended it (clueless as to how they know its good). The one they recommended in Vivocity (Vinco) is far less beyond my expectation. Their donuts sucks! Anyway, I was confident that I could be the first one to try this Donut Factory! Fahmy texted me when I was on my way there: "Are you sure you want to queue?". Pretty dumb question since I'm not even there yet. Went down to the basement and cheerfully browsed the directory trying to locate the store when Fahmy pointed to me in a direction which looks like one where a Singaporean lined up to get freebies. To my horror the queue was split into 3! I bet these people started queueing even before the store had opened! Fahmy: Do you want to queue? Fida: Fuck it and lets watch a movie. So we headed to Great World City and bought tickets to see Fracture. Ryan Gosling... mmm... I thought he was hotter in Hercules. Its a good movie I'd give it a 7/10. The ending could have been better. I liked it, Fahmy liked it. So I guess its money well spent. We spend the whole of my Saturday talking, laughing, hugging, eating, drinking... just plain norm fun. Its been a VERY long time since I spent more than 10 solid hours with him. Any idea when is the screening for that Simpsons movie? The donuts shown in the trailer looks really yummy! |

Its not the first time we're communicating. We had conversations at the bus stop and in the bus. This company ain't that big. You see me every working day looking for newspaper or when you got locked out of your office during lunch hour. What a bitch! |

Party?
12:22:00 PM
On Friday night, about 30% of my colleagues stayed back to throw a farewell party to 3 of my other colleagues who'll be leaving, Carebear, Charger and erm... a fruit. Haha... I use nicknames cos I felt like it. What? Other bloggers are doing it so why can't I! Anyway the party's B-O-R-I-N-G but at least I gotta play Nintendo Wii Tennis! Addictive like no words can describe. I don't suck... and I'm no expert but practise is the key word. That's the only bit of the part that I enjoyed the most. Oh ya... the pizzas... and my homemade cuppies! I didn't even bother to whip my digicam out!
17 more days till my trip... estatic? OUI! |

You better shop around
10:30:00 AM
Am I ready? Is it time yet? Should I get myself a health insurance coverage now that I'm pretty sure my health is no longer as top notched as it was 5 years back? Most health insurance plans usually involves a monthly premium payment deducted directly from your bank but how do you know you're making your payment worth the investment?
I'm very sure, my fellow uninsured friends, that an affordable health insurance package is out there. Somewhere... not recommended cos maybe what your agents wants is not whats best for you but all they cared about is their commission payouts. Don't be afraid to request for a custom made plans to suit your needs. Don't pay unnecesary dollars for nothing. You're suppose to take care of yourself and not your agent's pocket. Just an advice, from one friend to another... Happy policy shopping! Labels: whatever |

Poker face, no?
Sunday, April 22, 200711:28:00 AM
I've always wondered how one can make money, legally of course and one sure way, if you've got the luck to boot, is to gamble. Casino is nothing foreign, we're opening one here in Singapore after many years of resorting to fleeing to one in other countries. Now here's another thought... why bother to gamble so far away from your bedroom when you can do it online?
One good website to try your luck to win some cash is with Mac Poker where they have the very oh-so-popular Poker of course. Other than depending on your luck to win with a good hand, you can earn Poker Bonus when you refer a friend to join you in the gambling fun you can have in many different rooms they have like Pacific Poker, Party Poker and Fulltilt Poker. I warn you, this can get addictive! For beginners, please take the time to read the rules, tips and strategies before you even think of starting. I mean, you wouldn't want to be all dried up before day 1 ends right? |

Why do I blog?
Friday, April 20, 200710:33:00 PM
This post by EastCoastLife inspired me to write this entry.
So... Why do I blog? History Back in the 90s when I was goddamn curious-till-I-don't-want-to-study about HTML, I started setting up personal homepages (haha who uses this word anymore?), fansites, official homepage for my friends and I (yeah, we think we're celebrities... Go PSYCHOS!) and many others from scratch; ie no frontpage nor one of those WYSIWYG softwares or program. Just being able to change the background image or the font type excites me. After I got kicked out of school, the only motivation for me to work and earn my own cash is to be able to afford my own computer, internet connection and a decent photo editing software. My skills improved tremendously as I browse many tutorials site and eventually take it to the next level - web design. I get orgasmic whenever I see my design online, for the world to see. It takes a hell lot of practice and browsing around to get the idea what HTML and photo editing softwares are capable of achieving. There wasn't this thingy called Blogger then so my homepage are hosted on free servers like geocities, angelfire, gurlchick, tripod and many more. I think my URL was like http://www.geocities.com/3454/Sunsetstrip/(i forgot my nickname then).index.html. Mouthful ain't it? So the next step is to find a host who provides the shortest URL. It doesn't end there. As having a homepage turns to a fad, advertisers starts pouring all over our homepage; pop-ups, banners, you name it they got it! It got too annoying for me and after long consultation with my geeky friends, I decided to purchase my own domain - FidaInc.com. Blogging fad emerging? Around the time I got the domain, new fad surfaced; having online journals/diaries. I made use of my domain and start blogging manually *GASP*! It was fun and much more versatile in some ways. After a couple of months when I could no longer commit to organizing my archives, I browse through many million tutorial site and end up using GreyMatter (like B2, Moveable Type) and my blogging frequency doubles as it takes away the time I had to spend on manually organising my post, uploading and archiving. Since I can take my mind of that, I spent more time thinking of innovative ways to spruce my website. Eventually a few new fads came up:
I think this is the answer to the actual question Blah blah blah... , I blog cos' I love to see my blog looking pretty, not so much for the words I typed on the whole outlook and presentation and I can say 'blogging' then and now has changed tremendously and I can safely admit, I'm lost. I'm all about visual, baby. So in conclusion, I blog because I.... *faint*! I have no clue... really. Labels: blog |

Define exotic travel
10:33:00 AM
All the while I thought Thailand would make an exotic kinda travel pick but I had arguments about this that Europe should be it. So it got me thinking... how exotic can Europe be? So I select a few to argue with.
Amsterdam... the capital city of the Netherlands, located in the south of the province North Holland. Not only they're noted for their museums *yawn* but also for the red light district. Exotic? Ooh yeah... prostitution is legal there by the way and also in the city area, cafes sells cannabis. This is not completely legal but is tolerated when small quantities of cannabis (up to 5 grams) are involved. Exotic? Hell yeah!! Barcelona... the second largest city in Spain known for its immense cultural history to the tourist like their architectural buildings and museums. They are also known for their beaches. Exotic? Erm... lukewarm, I'd say. Barcelona is also home to the Sónar Music Festival which takes place around June every year - something like Full Moon Party I guess. Exotic? Getting warmer... Rome... is the capital city of Italy, the city which surrounds the oh so famous Vatican City. Rich in culture and history, but what's so exotic about the Colosseum or the Pope? Maybe if I'm an appreciator of art and architecture, I'll have a visual feast. In conclusion, given a choice I'll definitely flee to Amsterdam for obvious reason. What's your pick? Labels: travel |

Long time no sea
Thursday, April 19, 200710:05:00 AM
I met an old friend from my Secondary School on tuesday and she came to realise its been exactly 10 years since the last time we met. MET... not talked or hung out etc. We were in the same stream, same batch, but never in the same class neither did we roll with the same people. She's always one of the boys, while I was a "social butterfly" hanging out with odd groups now and then.
Even though we've never been close, we realise we both have not enjoyed our four years in that school. I'm not even talking about hating the studying bit. We hated those popular girls who thought they're all that, we hated the teachers, we hated practically the same things. But for her, military band (her ECA) is the only thing she looked forward to in school, I, on the other hand, had nothing else. 10 years and we've learnt how much we had grown up and how fun it was to laugh when we found out those popular girls are strapped at hom with kids while we, the rebel, are out and about having fun, enjoying life to the fullest. Me: Uneducated fool hoping to achieve big via work experience She: Pilot of the sea... awesome eh? Labels: friends |

Who's ya daddy?
Friday, April 13, 200711:52:00 AM
Referring to this article pertaining to our minister's annual income, it saddens me that when I look around I see my fellow citizen (otherwise known as the heartlanders) mostly breaking even with the monthly salary.
A Minister in Singapore gets an annual salary of $1.2 million. Our Prime Minister gets an annual salary of $1.9 million and our Minister Mentor gets $2.7 million a year as reported in our local press. Compared to our office bearers, the President of the United States of America gets only about an annual salary of nearly SGD $1 million. The Prime Minister of Canada gets paid annually about SGD $400,000. The Australian Prime Minister receives only an annual salary of about SGD $300,000. And the United Kingdom Prime Minister gets about SGD half a million dollars and Hong Kong Head of Government receives around SGD $600,000 annually.Like HELLO! What are we trying to prove here? I'm sure the other ministers (or presidents) worked a hell lot harder than ours. Where's the equality here? In another article, where they defends the salary formula, they compared incomes of professions like lawyers, doctors, accountants etc. Its not the issue at all here. I'm sure those people deserve every justified dollars and cents they earned. I'm not politically well-versed but this is too absurb for street-minded citizen like myself. Is that where tax payers money goes to every year? How aout helping the citizen to be debt free maybe by lowering prices of home purchases, public transportation and maybe a proper salary adjustment/increment especially when it comes to annual bonuses? Do they really need that much money? I'm sure a CEO of the biggest bank in the world knows how to tie the purse strings when it comes to personal/business expenditure. They are placed in whatever positions they are right now to help the country and its citizen. So what if they claim the government is trying to be more transparent? Your people are in debt 360 degrees (and I'm not referring to credit card bills etc). What are you doing to help them? Its true what people say, you look at the poor and go... Mouth: Oh poor thing... Mind: What can I do to help? Heart: Thank God that's not me! After being in civil service for 6years, I came to terms to accept the fact that the job is an iron ricebowl EVEN FOR UNDERPERFORMERS depsite for what they claimed. Let me quote from here, about being in govt sector. Q. The civil service is said to be an iron rice bowl where poor performers are tolerated. How true is this?I am using my own encounters and myself as a good example:
SIGH! Like me if you're pissed sign the petition here to stop them greeds! Oh FYI, the old hill in front of my block was under renovation for the past 6 months or so and finally its completed. All they did was to replant the grass and grow new trees. Thank you tax payers for your contribution to my brand new hill! |

On The Line
2:16:00 PM
That's the title of the movie had never been screened anywhere other than in theatres near your in 2001. Why??? Its been so long I actually forgot what's it about! I bought tickets to watch it because I'm a fan of Nsync and 2 of my favorite boys are in it - Lance Bass and Joey Fatone (not pronounced as Fat-One, mind you!).
I remember the movie's got something to do with the train, met a girl on the train, separated, can't stop thinking about her, send search party to look for her (more like putting up posters like someone who had lost a puppy) and happy ending. It'll be so nostalgic if I could rent the DVD and have a girls' (or gays) stay in movie night and reminisce the good ol' days. Haha... burly boys not allowed! Labels: movies |

Online travel bookings
10:06:00 AM
Personally I prefer to DIY my own travel plan. I never liked those ready packages unless they offer flexibility in the intenary. Important bits of DIY-ing your vacation is to find the best bargain for your air ticket and accomodation. There's no better place to hunt then the internet. I have a few favourite portals and one of the latest one to join my "GOOD" list is Travel.com.au.
They have a good list of cheap flights ranging from Qantas to Singapore Airlines to United Airlines and even my favourite Jetstar! The prices they quote doesn't have any hidden cost. Air ticket price and tax value all written in black and white. The variety for the cheap accomodation listed is just too awesome. I gave the search function a shot and when I tried to search for a good deal for a hotel in Singapore, I almost peed in my skirt when some 'branded' hotels here are listed below the normal rates I've seen from other online booking site! So now you know you can save a good amount of money for awesome deals you can cook up yourself and maybe use that extra cash to pamper yourself with a wholesome shopping spree. Be smart, always hunt for the best deals online. I gurantee you no regrets! Labels: travel |

My phone has been very very quiet for the past year. Why? It didn't used to be like this. Is it something that I've done? Did I put so much attention on my love life and work that I forsaken everything else that matters? Yup, Sims 2 is my new best friend. It kept me company throught good and bad hours after hours!

spend - save = debt
Friday, April 06, 20079:47:00 AM
How many of us out there own credit cards? How many of us applied for one even when you jolly well know, you do not meet the requirements? Correction - how many banks out there approved your application even when you do not meet the most basic (and important) requirement, your annual salary. If you had your hands virtual up for both my question, may I ask, how much in debt are you right now? Right now I'm looking at a Debt Management website that has practically all the answers to debtors' worry.
The websites acts as a resourceful search engine for the best loans and bad credit remortgages in UK (unfortunately). Many people are not applying for one sensibly. Many people waste money on not searching for a loan that offers the lowest interest or they don’t take enough care in making sure they can afford the repayments which is crucial cos' you may be in a whole other debt problems because of that. For a spendthrift like me I foresee the need to take up loan one day to pay for erm... my lifestyle. Do I want to tie myself down in debt like that? Its like buying a car or a house and paying in installments. You'll owe the bank for life. Of course it might not be the case for say study, vacation or renovation loans. Since these loans are somewhat possible to pay up, its important that I do my research before getting myself in debt to the grave. In short, I would advise you to spend wisely. If you can't afford something, using your credit card (other than for emergency, and by emergency I mean life and death situation) for your purchases is just gonna spell trouble in your wallet. Now, where's my scissors... Labels: money |

Spinners!
10:01:00 AM
So I got a call from one of those telemarketing peeps and I was about to slam the receiver when I realise this is nothing like those annoying "sit in a presentation before collecting free gifts" sort so I'd give it a shot. Its a free makeover trial :P (I'm not gonna name the studio as I refuse to give them free publicity)
I was punctual for my appointment and the receptionist made me wait another 20mins or so. I notice a bunch of peeps that came in after me were in the same time slot as I am. I thought they had enough staff to entertain that many but we're all made to wait. When it was my turn, the receptionist escorted me to clims the stairs, 3 floors up, and I find myself in a pretty decent looking studio. I was assigned to a make up artist and she did a good job basically, she will never pull something that I may not like without asking first. I can even have second thoughts and be a bitch about stuff, she;ll still gladly fix me up. Then it comes to the hair and I have no clue what I wanna do. She offered to neaten my rebonded hair and I thought it'll be fun to go curly. I wished her luck to work on my thick hair and she laughed. Once its done, I wasn't that excited about the hair. Maybe I'm not used to it, and I had problem styling it. She smiled and said "Trust me." In 2 mins, my hair is done and I felt like hugging her. She's the kind of person I wanna have around when I got a bad hair day! Make up done, hair done, photographer waiting for me in the back room. Scrawny middle age men barely spoke 2 words to me, took control of the whole shoot by I mean, they have to be more realistic, they randomly call people of all walks of life, not accepting walk-in requests, and their cheapest package is like S$2899! Like WTF! Pride... too much pride! And the photos... I get to choose 2 and they burn it in a CD (case not included, only for those who sign up) and its a raw files. I pissed them off a lil' more lying that I'm a designer and photoshop is my forte. I still remember the look on their face. Yes, its me, the designer, putting my editing skills to work, in 3 mins I came up with these. Watcha think? |

Step into the good lights
Monday, April 02, 20074:19:00 PM
I was browsing the net for some ideas on what kind of lights I want for my room. I'm bewildered by the lighting range i see at Farreys.com. Visitors can shop by the lighting brand, application or by style of choice. The search tool quickly helps find the perfect lights that you have in mind, pretty cool eh? I have to highlight a few collection that captivated my attention.
Maxim lighting collection, no not the sleazy men's magazine, caters for the contemporary, natural, traditional and transitional. These are some of my favorites. Murray Feiss lighting specialises in indoor and outdoor lighting, even for bathrooms. Let me show you my favourites. Yes, you notice I picked those that will not fit my room but I'm ambitious and one day I will have my own house just so that I can have the lightings! Will you gasp for life if I were to tell you those I picked cost no more than US$500? Why spend hundreds of thousands for a designer one when you can skimp and pay fraction of the cost here. Yes I know, shipping will be expensive but it still won't match the cost of lights in normal retail stores. I should get paid for all these awesome information... hmmm. Labels: shopping |
